With the departure of Julian de Guzman and retirement of Daniel Hernandez, FC Dallas signed 33-year-old French veteran Peter Luccin Tuesday, adding a player with extensive experience in Ligue 1 and La Liga.
"He can cover a lot of space in central midfield, and he seldom loses the ball," FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said in a team statement. "His resume is quite outstanding, having played quite a few years in the first divisions in France and Spain. He is going to be a very good addition to our team."
Luccin's travels have taken him to Cannes, Bordeaux, Marseille, Paris St.-Germain, Celta de Vigo, Atletico Madrid, Real Zaragoza, Racing Santander and Swiss club Lausanne Sport. He has played very few first-team minutes in the past few years, though, most recently playing in eight games in the 2011-12 season with Lausanne Sport and not playing in the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons. According to Hyndman, he excelled during a trial period with FC Dallas at the end of this past season, though, one in which Dallas narrowly missed out on making the playoffs, finishing sixth in the MLS Western Conference.
"Peter came in at the end of the season to be seen by the FC Dallascoaching staff," Hyndman said. "We were in the final two weeks of training, so he was being measured against a group of players who were very fit. He really impressed us."
